stick whiskers write-up

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

Sgt. Wesman’s Logan Square Friends Band doesn’t satirize The Beatles on its latest release, Sticky Whiskers, but there is a definite 1960s vibe that runs through most of the CD. Led by SGT. WESMAN, this collective creates tripped-out psychedelic rock on songs like ‘Going Nowhere,’ but opts for a classic new-wave approach on the catchy fun of ‘In The Kitchen.’ WESMAN’s studio posse succeeds at a variety of genres, but a cleaner production would have made this effort even more impressive. ” – Terrence Flamm

review of VULTURES

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

“Listening to ‘Vultures,’ at first the instrumentation reminded me of Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet, a longtime fav band of mine, but then the vox came in and it was like this cool Gang of Four meets Motown kind of thing, and THEN it kept getting even better. A++” –avjones

Sgt. Wesman’s Logan Square Friends Band + Birthday Suits + The Alright Alreadies

Minnesota’s Birthday Suits are guitarist Hideo Takahashi and drummer Yuichiro Matthew Kazama, but like more than a few guitar-drums duos, the pair makes a racket bigger than the sum of its parts. Even better, it’s a total sweat-drenched blast, so bring a few extra bucks to buy the band’s new split 7“, shared with Denton, Texas’s Marked Men. Headlining is local garage goof collective Sgt. Wesman’s Logan Square Friends Band.
